New Mexico Continued

During the day on Sunday when we were in New Mexico, Wilson and I decided to do a little bit of hiking and exploring here are some pictures form that.

A mule deer we saw. This one is real, I promise.

 

 

 

 

 

This rock was huge. Wilson and I stood next to it and only came up to where the white part ends. Of course at the time we didn't think to take a picture standing next to it.

 

 

 

Only two more posts left for this trip. One special one for my mom and then the return trip home.

We Made It

We left Colorado Springs right around 9:00am on Saturday and made it to New Mexico about 2:30pm. So all in all I think we did pretty good considering we made several stops and were going slow in places to take pictures. But anyway, Wilson's parents have several miniature donkeys that they breed and sell. They were very interesting animals.

This is Wilson(on the right) and his father feeding and taking pictures of the donkeys. And yes these donkeys are full grown.

 

 

 

These last three pictures are of Zach. He is the newest edition to the family of donkeys they have. They had somewhere between 10-15 donkeys while I was there but some of them were just there to breed or were about to be sold.

 

This was the view you had from the porch of their house. The last picture is their house. Wilson's dad was burning tumble weeds at the time of the picture, hence the smoke.

Some More Road Trip

Since you all thought the elk was awesome here is another picture of it. Not as cool as the first one but boy did I get you all good. I know, I'm sorry but the first picture looked so real. This "elk" was just a metal cut out on top of a mountain off the road. Now on to the real stuff.

We experienced every season there could possibly be while driving. It started off sunny then went to rain, then snow, then hail, then back to snow, then to rain. It was a very interesting cycle.

 

Here are some of the twisty roads we traveled and some of the views along the way.

The first picture in the third row is a house that was built atop a small mountain. This was a very common thing to see. I think it would be a really cool place to have a home. The picture right below it is chimney rock. You can just see the tip of it sticking through the fog on the left.

WooHoo, Internet Finally!

I am so happy know. I finally have an internet connection for my computer rather then try to keep up to date with everything using my phone. That's just a pain. Having internet again also means I am being pressured by certain people(we won't mention any names) to get some posts up again. So here we go.

Many of you know that over the Easter weekend I was able to go with my friend Wilson to visit his Dad and Step-Mom who live in New Mexico. It was about a 5 1/2 hour drive from Colorado Springs to their house in Aztec, NM which is only about 20 minutes into New Mexico. The ride was awesome because we were in the mountains almost the whole way. The best part was when we actually had to drive over a mountain pass that was a 4 lane road twisting through the up and over the mountain. It was scary at some points because you would go around a bend and be almost looking over a cliff with no guard rail there to save you. I took tons of pictures so over the next few days you will be seeing a lot of the trip.

This is a baby fox that was outside of our barracks before we left. The mom had just left and this fox and another were running and jumping around outside the den.

Some of the sights we saw along the trip there. The fourth picture is a painted fire hydrant. And yes that is an elk crossing sign. We saw several of these but never did encounter an elk crossing the street. We did see this however . . .

Welcome to Colorado

Well, I arrived safely in Colorado. My first flight out of G.R. was delayed an hour but I still made it here on time. I have a week in in-processing to do where I will be doing a lot of paperwork and then I get sent back to my unit.

I met Mackin here yesterday and he invited me to go see The Fast and Furious with him, his wife and another friend so we did that then went back to his house to hang out.

The picture above is of Cheyenne mountain. It is better known as the location of NORAD. I haven't been out sightseeing yet so this is the only picture I have.
