My Five Day Weekend

Yes, labor day has rolled around once again bringing with it one of the joys of being in the army, the glorious four day weekend. You may be looking at the title of this post know and wondering why then did I title it my five day weekend, because I am single.

You see any time a federal holiday rolls around the army sees fit to take give us that holiday off as well as the day before or after it off. And because of Saturday and Sunday we get a four day weekend. What a great policy.

Going back to my weekend, the chapel on base is sponsoring a trip to Caribbean Way water park for single soldiers. As with many other events I was voluntold that I was going. That is on Friday. And the four day weekend lasts till Tuesday. Yea!

There is not a whole lot else going on for me to talk about. I guess we are going to the field at the end of September so the pilots can shoot some Hellfire missiles. Their "the big ones". To get out there we have to convoy and because of that our shop is trying to get everyone licensed in driving one of these.

This is an LMTV or more commonly known as a 2 1/2 ton or deuce and a half based on the cargo capacity. So I was supposed to be taking a drivers test in one through some back villages of Korea however other things have come up when ever I was supposed to go. We'll see if it ever happens.

I Guess I Have Some Explaining To Do

So everyone wondered what I had on my head in my last post. To answer all of the questions it is something that I received in a package from my parents recently.

It is a simple ball by day . . .

But it has a very spiky alter ego when it gets flipped inside out.

It can be used for entertainment of all sorts.

And mom this picture is for you. It makes a nice nose muff, however it smells of rubber.

Yea, Laugh it up everyone. I'm here for your entertainment.

Yup, Same Ole, Same Ole

I don't have anything real special to say today. Friday it will just be my squad leader (who was at ait with me) and I will be the only ones holding down the shop. No it's not because I got in trouble. Last week 2nd and 3rd squad worked on the weekend so to compensate they get Friday off, then next week we swap. There shouldn't be much to do but a few inspections so it shouldn't be a bad day, just long. Other then that there is not a whole lot going on.

Here was my view out the window this morning.

It was a perfect day today. Clear skies, mid 70's and a slight breeze. Perfect weather for working onside. Hope the weather is like that back in the states for everyone today.

My Trips to Yongsan

A few posts ago I mentioned that I would be posting about my trip to Yongsan. Yongsan is a military base pretty much in Seoul. I believe it is one of the biggest posts in South Korea. I go here often as it has many stores and things to do. However recently I have gone off the base with two of my friends and we have been exploring the many shopping districts around Seoul but overall just sightseeing.

I hope you are in the mood to see lots of pictures because I have a lot of them. 

This is one of the tallest buildings in Seoul. We decided to take the elevator to the top floor (33) to get a good view of this . . .

When we got done looking at the view we decided to try to take the stairs to a higher floor but couldn't get anywhere. However we found out that the door leading into the stairwell on the 33 floor locked behind us, so we had to take 66 flights of stairs down to the ground level. No fun, but I guess that's what we get for going where we weren't supposed to be.

This family was performing next to this small river running through Seoul.

There was lots of figures like tennis players, soccer, softball, etc. hanging form these arches for the Olympics.

  I even got to see the Olympic torch without even having to go to Beijing. This was near a large tv playing the Olympics.

Elvis even decided to show up to watch the Olympics.

A Day in the Life of an Armament Dawg

Today I figured I would give you all an inside look at the goings on inside an armament workshop and out on the flight line. So I will cut right to the chase.

Here you can see the armament dawg in his natural habitat. There are some workbenches that also serve as wonderful seats and there are lots of drawers to hold hundreds of screws, bolts, washers and lots of other fun things.

Here is a view of the other side of the shop. This is a prime example of what we have been doing lately since there is not much work to be done.

This is a picture of one of Pfc. Sandridge standing next to the inspection board. This is the board that has the 24 aircraft and all the due dates of the inspections on it.

This is out on the flight line. The Huey you see flying is part of the ROK air force. The helicopters aren't too bad when they fly around, it's the jets sitting on their flight line with full  afterburners, taking off, and landing that are obnoxious.

This is Pfc. Mackin doing the most common task - a 14 day gun inspection. He is inspecting the gun for anything wrong and making sure everything is clean.
